Because everything develops very fast, there is no chance to go in hiding. Therefore the only choice is to go meet the Vikings
peacefully and to remain calm. A prominent-looking Viking captain jumps ashore. He is straight forward. Instead of exchanging
greetings, he means business, glancing around to find the village olderman, who is one of the front line ones to meet the
Viking.
- Where have you stashed your village gold?, the captain roars and continues: - weŽll keep your gold and youŽll keep
your lives! If we find no gold, we shall burn down your village, kill the men and take hostage to sell the women and the children
as slaves.

(The villagers sing their reply)
-we have no gold we have no wealth
We grow our fields to keep our health
We make our bread,
To survive in the cold
Our land and the dirt is our gold.
The Olderman asks the Viking, if he has heard that the Crown of the King in Novgorod has a Jewel that is so Mighty, that
no other treasure can match it.
-No more wealth is ever needed, if you possess this Mighty Jewel.
It is a fast decision for the Viking Captain:
-You will guide us to Novgorod. We will take your daughter hostage to keep you on board our ship. If we find no Jewel
in Novgorod, we shall return and burn your village and kill everybody on the way back.
